The Attorney General of Justice of Mexico City, Bertha María Alcalde Luján, held a press conference on Sunday, March 2, to inform about the progress in combating impunity in cases of homicides and serious crimes in the capital. Among the highlighted cases is the kidnapping of several foreigners of Indian and Nepalese nationality on February 21.

Following the corresponding complaint, a rescue operation was carried out that resulted in the detention of three alleged perpetrators, who now face charges of aggravated kidnapping and unlawful collection. During the initial hearing on February 28, the detainees were linked to the process and were granted three months of supplementary investigation to delve into their involvement in the events.

Attorney Alcalde Luján emphasized that, in addition to the kidnapping case, the Human Trafficking Prosecutor's Office is conducting a parallel investigation to understand the extent of the human trafficking network. 'We already have some lines of investigation that we are progressing on, and we will be able to report on them in due course,' the attorney stated, without providing further details.

During her speech, Alcalde Luján acknowledged the presence of international mafias within Mexico City, highlighting that these organizations are not only dedicated to human trafficking crimes but also to other serious criminal activities.
